Welcome to The Pastor's Office!

During my more than 40 years of local church ministry, I have prepared and presented many studies, sermons, seminars and worship services, as most pastors do. This site is an effort to put into written form these resources for eternal life practices that I have presented during these years of ministry.

What I have included here is an ongoing project to disseminate resources for believers in Jesus Christ as they practice their faith on a daily basis. The transformation of the believer by the Holy Spirit of God in the new creation in Christ (see 2 Corinthians 5:16-21) is the focus of intention here.

A supplement to local church ministries

My hope is that these materials will be a helpful supplement and resource for further reading and growth. These pages are presented as a thoughtful extension of local church ministry, not a substitute for that fellowship of believers which is the sum and substance of our life in Christ.

The "Start with God" outlook

My aim here is to "start with God" (i.e., His revelation in the Bible) from a hermeneutical perspective, bringing the message of the Bible into the present time. These resources are traditional in their language and outlook. Current culture is not a model here; indeed, this may be the only time I mention it.

What I am recommending here has stood the test of time and practice, proving useful to Christians over a period of at least decades, stretching back toward the first century origins of Christian faith practice. I have tried to leave theology and doctrine aside as much as possible, finding that Jesus did much the same thing during His earthly teaching ministry.

Eternity in view

My hope is that you, the individual believer in Jesus Christ, may be encouraged along your way of eternal life now (see John 5:24) and in the future, living in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit in the life that God gives to all of us.

Outside links

Much good work is available. The links are introduced by the webmasters' own comments where available.
  • Bible Hub
Bible Hub Online Parallel Bible, search and study tools including parallel texts, cross references, Treasury of Scripture, and commentaries. This site provides quick access to topical studies, interlinears, sermons, Strong's and many more resources. Our mission is best summarized as follows: 1) Increase the visibility and accessibility of the Scriptures online. 2) Provide free access to Bible study tools in many languages. 3) Promote the Gospel of Christ through the learning, study and application of God's word.
  • Christian Classics Ethereal Library
This site presents a vast collection of classic Christian works from the ancient past. Most of the texts appear to have been scanned from original editions and may include some typographical errors. However, this is a "small price to pay" for free access to these mostly out-of-print works.
  • Open Hymnal Project
"Welcome to the Open Hymnal Project, an effort to create a freely distributable, downloadable database of Christian hymns, spiritual songs, and prelude/postlude music. I am doing my best to create a final product that is "Hymnal-quality", and could feasibly be used as the basis for a printed church hymnal. This music is to be distributed as complete scores (words and music), using all accompaniment parts, in formats that are easily accessible on most computer OS's and which can be freely modified by anyone."
  • Christian History Institute
Christian History is a non-profit organization that provides Christian history resources and self-study material at low or no cost. Based out of Worcester, PA, CHI was founded in 1982 by Dr. A. Kenneth Curtis to share the lively history of the faith.
    Our Mission
Christian History Institute seeks to bring the story of the church to the people of the church, to see the best in every Christian tradition, and to acknowledge the full and honest story of the church universal. We are committed to capturing the imagination through unique images and vivid storytelling in our printed materials, professional video productions, and internet resources, grounded in the best contemporary scholarship.
  • Revised Common Lectionary
This site presents the 3-year cycle of the Revised Common Lectionary of biblical readings that is used by the majority of Christian communions throughout the world. This cycle, determined by the church year, provides a teaching summary of the major doctrines of Christianity. There is a cycle of readings for constructing church services as well as a daily cycle of readings for every day in a three-year cycle, providing this same doctrinal overview. The site also includes Christian art, prayer, and PDF forms of the readings and other materials for inclusion in local church worship bulletins.

These all deal with historic Christianity

I have employed the information from all of these sites on a current basis. While I have points of difference with some of it, the main thrust of these websites is a forthright goal to present historic Christian faith in an accurate and faithful manner, mostly without bias, while presenting a range of biblical viewpoints.

"Mere Christianity" is the emphasis.

As C.S. Lewis wrote in his book by the same title, the goal here is to present what Christians believe as such. No attempt has been made to approve or disapprove of a particular resource, although my personal favorites have been included as continually useful in helping others to discern and practice faith in Christ. My hope is that you will find inspiration for your life in Christ and joy along your way through the use of these resources.
